Review of a software tool in the training company: GET N.V.

I will be reviewing the QF-Test tool, I used this tool during my 2 weeks of training at GET NV. The tool is great at making tests for applications you have made. It was used by the Software Development department. They used it to make tests for their web application called “Prime Visit”.

It’s made by a German company called “QFS” which stands for Quality First Software. The tool is meant for making tests for Java and Web-applications. There are other tools which do the same thing like TestComplete, Sahi, Selenium,… It works by recognizing buttons and labels on your app and documenting where to click and when, then you can automate it to run these tests over and over again to find bugs and glitches.

(this is a screenshot of the QF-Test tool in action, on the left you see all the procedures of a test case which is running on the application on the right side)

I am impressed by the scale of the tool, it supports many kinds of applications and programming languages. It is easy to learn how to make tests but you can also dig deeper into QF-Test to make more advanced tests which use scripts to input different data every time. What I also like is that you can add structure to your tests with folders and different test cases. A plus to the tool is that when you run your test you can watch the tool move your mouse and type in words on your application (I had lots of fun watching it do that during my internship). The worst thing about the tool is that it’s an expensive tool and it’s mainly meant to be for companies which explains the price of almost € 2,000. I still think it’s a must have for software developers to automatically test their applications.

The online review at http://qatestingtools.com/qfs/qftest does a very good job at explaining what QF-Test is. It comes with a price chart, specifications and video tutorials. It has a very in-depth list of advantages which is useful for developers because it lists all the program languages and different kinds of applications it supports. I agree with the list of advantages and the information the review has on the price is the same as on the QF-Test site.

Despite the expensive price, the tool is brilliant at what it’s made for which is making tests for your applications. And it definitely succeeds at being user friendly and able to work with all kinds of applications and programming languages. I absolutely recommend it to other companies which develop software to run automated tests all night to point out all the little and big bugs and glitches.
